'93 Nostalgia!

NOSTALGIA: (n)-A longing for the things of the past
There are so many things that remind us of our days at JHS: the clothes we used to wear, tv shows we watched and the music we listened to. This page will take us back to those days...

So what takes you back to '93?
"I remember when "What's the 411" by Mary J. Blige first came out. Shonda Sparrow had the CD and I remember her singing one of the songs from it all the time. I HAD to catch "A Different World" every Thursday at 8:00pm. I also remember Benny Joseph and Brian Steward saying things that just cracked me up!" ~~~from Audrey Dawson~~

"I remember Shonda Sparrow and Keisha Howell singing Mary J songs on the bus going away to one of our band trips. And the African Queen Latifah hats that Nia used to wear (Nia don't kill me)." ~~~from Ja'Juan Harris~~~

"I remember most boys had a high top fade, ramp, or the dreaded HI-LOW.  Most of the girls were in transition from the awful "JerrY Curl" to a perm.  Everyone was into Cross Colors, Karl Kani, Doc Martin boots, Hip-Hop style and baggy jeans started to phase in.  The band finally got new uniforms." ~~~ from Cliff Youngblood~~~

"I remember the last month of school...A food fight broke out between the band, football, and cheerleading table.  The food fight was instigated by that old B.C.C. chant. "1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you aint &*^%!" ~~~ from Kerline Docteur~~~

"What about the song "Don't Walk Away" by Jade (what ever happened to them?) I remember the first day of band camp our freshman year, we had to go around the band room and introduce ourselves.  When it was time fore Demond Johnson to introduce himself he said his and "Just call me fireball" and snapped his fingers and we all just lost our minds!!!! ( Demond, baby you know I love you)  The bomb shows to watch were "In Living Color", "Martin", "A Diffrent World", "90210" ( Don't act like I'm the only one who used to watch it). Stupid Benny and Kwame would run around touching peoples' clothes saying, "What is this, Velvet? and making that noise from a nentendo fighting game they used to play." ~~~from Keisha Howell~~~

"Ya'll, I'm crackin' up over here! Ya'll have really taken me back! Hey, who remembers J-Love? I remember when he used to try and sing "Teddy's Jam" by Guy. He'd be like, "Jam..oh jam..Teddy jambolina!" (Kristi I know you  remember this!) Do ya'll remember the song, "I Got A Man" by Positive K "but how you talkin'...whateva!" The group that will forever remind me of our class is JODECI. Remember Taurus used to sing oooohhhh yeah!" ~~~from Audrey~~~

"Ok now you went back I remember j love used to follow Kristi around. He used to be all over the school looking for her." ~~~from Ja'Juan~~~

"You guys really took me back. Jajaun you know you went there with J-Love. Audrey, who could forget "Teddy jambolina". Hey guys remember the funny host of characters that use to help the band? Butternut and Mr Scabro." ~~~from Kristi Brown~~~

How ' bout Butternut is still working with the band? I don't know where Mr. Scarbro is. Remember when he almost got left on one of the band trips and literally almost "missed the bus"? I think Nate, Kwame, Benny and some of the other guys would sing, "I missed the bus!" whenever they would see him. That junk was too funny! Remember when Nate, Zawadi, Cliff, Dwayne and (I think) Demond sang in the talent show? ~~~from Audrey~~~

"One of my favorite 90's video was SWV's DownTown and Dre/Snoop : Ain't Nothin But a G-Thang. That was the hit in "93"." ~~~from Kristi~~~

"Hey everyone!!! One of my favorite artist from that time was Keith Sweat and R Kelly with Honey Love." ~~~from LaToya Hicks~~~

"Movie for our time:  New Jack City...Ladies, what about the bucket hats we used to wear with the big flower in the front, and the tight jeans."
~~~from Keisha H~~~
"Girl, who could forget the tight Bongo jeans. You could hardly fasten your seat belt because they were so tight!" ~~~from Kristi~~~
"Remember Benny use to say Sexual Chocolate all the time, from the movie Coming to America?" ~~~from LaToya~~~
"Do ya'll remember that song, "I Got 5 On it"? Was that during our time? What about "Whoomp! There it is!" One of my fave videos was "Anything" by SWV." ~~~from Audrey~~~
"You guys/gals are jogging my memory of high school of which I thought I have long since forgotten.  However some of my memories are as follows:Kristi Brown and her laugh...Cliff and I's Cross Color outfits at the homecoming half time show, (how did I let him dress me)...Mad dog 20/20 before the football games." ~~~from Jamak Ali~~~
"I got five on it was the jam! (all 7 versions of it) I remember Shai being very popular with Kenny Walker and Taurus Brown walking through the hallways trying to imitate them and Boyz to Men. Even though I didn't come on the scene until the second semester of our Jr. year I was right on time for one of the most talked about things I will ever remember which was JaJuan's famous hair do from our JR. prom. She has always been able to wear any hairstyle!" ~~~ from Markis Aka Chad Randall (the one with the red bug)"
"Hey does anyone from Mrs. Fivush's class remember when Sammie swallowed his cheat sheet???? Also, I remember on band trips when Benny used to yell, "Turn 'em off!" like Teddy Pendagrass did in "Turn Off the Lights". He'd yell it when the bus driver would forget to turn off the lights." ~~~from Audrey~~~
"HAHAHA  HAHAHA, You took me back with the turn out the lights...Remember Bill Riley gave Kristi Brown the nickname "Krusty"!!!  ha ha ha ha...Girl, you know I love you!!!" ~~~from Keisha H.~~~
